Are you a student or a new graduate? Unusure about your future and scared to start your veterinary journey?

New graduates often doubt their skills and have a nagging fear they will be exposed as a fraud – and yes, we know the feeling! It sometimes takes years to gain confidence and trust your knowledge. It’s very important to ask questions, learn lessons and move forward. We get many private messages from students around the world, so we have decided to create this website to help you – younger colleagues – at the beginning of your veterinary career.

ABOUT US

Dr Patrycja Zimmermann

graduated from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Life Sciences in Lublin, Poland and later moved to Australia in March 2016. She had never been to Australia before moving and had never considered moving out of Poland, but she met her husband and completely changed her life within three months. She successfully completed the Australasian Veterinary Examination in Australia and started her career working in small animal general practices in Melbourne, where she gained experience in both internal medicine and surgery. She then fell in love with emergency medicine and transformed to a qualified emergency veterinarian.  Currently she works in a renowned emergency clinic in Brisbane, where she enjoys the weather and working alongside top vets. She owns two burmese cats named “Leo” and “Noosa”.

Dr Magdalena West

graduated from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Life Sciences in Warsaw, Poland and followed her dreams of moving down under (Australia and New Zealand) soon after. She successfully completed the Australasian Veterinary Examination in Australia. Upon moving to Melbourne, she worked as a vet in a fast-paced general practice clinic in Bendigo where she fell in love with the emergency and critical care aspects of the job. Her various experiences and addiction to adrenaline led her to a job in a well known emergency clinic in Melbourne, where she works alongside and learns from specialists from different fields. In her spare time, Magda also enjoys searching for cheap flights to fuel her travel habit, drinking tea and hanging out with her Kiwi husband and puppy “Layla”.
